We now have our first customers connected

One of the first to enjoy our game-changing broadband was Walney resident Colin Grosvenor, an IT engineer for the NHS.

Colin said: “It’s important to me to have good broadband speeds in order to make sure I can do my work for the NHS from home. The speeds I was getting with my previous supplier were terribly slow, but with Voneus they are incredible.”

Check out the video to find out more from Colin and how we’re bringing ultrafast broadband to Walney Island.

Better broadband means...
Fast and reliable broadband

Because your upload and download speeds are the same, your broadband will still be smooth and reliable.

Better broadband means...
Ultrafast anywhere

For homes and communities where we can't reach you by cable, we’ve developed a different approach. Instead, we ping a Wi-Fi signal off antennas to your home.

Have a look at why switching to Voneus was so easy for retired Walney Island resident Mike Coward.

Mike says: “Broadband speeds that we get now from Voneus are much better than we previously had. In fact, I would say they’re four times better. We use our broadband for just normal things that people do, like watching TV or FaceTime with family. We’re not gamers. We just want a good system that works whenever we want it to work.”

Better broadband means...
Fast speed, fast set-up

There’s no digging for connecting cables when we install wireless broadband. That means it’s quick and easy to get set up.

What our customers say

Frequently Asked Questions

Gigabit wireless broadband is a state-of-the-art Voneus technology that delivers ultrafast broadband via radio signals. Transmitters on masts and lampposts send the signal to smaller radio receivers on your property.

Full fibre, often referred to as fibre to the premises (FTTP), is broadband delivered directly into your property using underground or in some cases overhead fibre optic cables.

There is no difference in the speeds that can be delivered: Voneus gigabit wireless broadband delivers speeds in parity with full fibre, with symmetrical speeds up to 900Mbps packages available.

Unlike traditional full fibre network builds, gigabit wireless networks eliminate the need to dig up roads as the equipment used to power the broadband is fixed to host sites and existing street fixtures (lampposts).

We’ve worked with the local authority (Westmorland and Furness Council) to utilise the existing street furniture to help host and power the network and our network build is now complete.

Our network is not 5G. There is absolutely no need for concern. None of the equipment or frequencies we use to provide our gigabit wireless broadband are harmful or dangerous.

Our equipment is very low powered and nowhere near the strength of a mobile signal. The radio waves used are just the same as those used to transmit the broadband Wi-Fi around people’s homes via their router, and the same technology that might connect a tablet with a TV (Bluetooth).

UK Government guidance on public health regarding Wi-Fi states that there is no consistent evidence that exposure to radio signals affects the health of the general population:
 Wi-fi radio waves and health - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Our broadband does not use the same signal bands as the mobile networks, those bands are licensed with the operators and Ofcom, and we are not allowed and do not use them. They are completely different technologies.

Yes. The network has been specifically designed to counter line of sight issues typically expected from a radio access network (RAN). This is P2P (point to point) that utilises existing street furniture (lampposts) and host sites such as Walney School and the Nautical Club to provide the network across the Island.

No network (including fibre) is ever 100% resilient to external factors such as vandalism to equipment or extreme weather but we do offer 24/7 technical support and engineering teams who are local to the area so we can resolve any issues as quickly as possible.

The radio kit that we use has an uptime of 99.999% and is extremely robust, withstanding the weather conditions that we would expect in the UK.

The best broadband package for you will depend on how you use your internet and how fast you want to go! If there are just one or two of you online browsing, our 250Mbps is probably all you need. If there are more of you at home and you're all online at the same time, you'll probably need our 500Mbps package. We'd recommend our fastest package of 900Mbps if you're gaming regularly, or uploading large files.

If you move home to an area where you can get Voneus, your contract will continue. If you can't get Voneus at your new property, you'll need to cancel your contract by giving us at least 30 days' notice in writing.

No problem. Go ahead and place your order with us and we'll hold your install for up to 11 months.
