Finding the broadband that’s right for you

Find the best broadband deal in the UK with our guide to speeds, hidden costs, and top tips

Finding the best broadband deal that’s right for you isn’t always easy. It’s a crowded market out there, overrun with mind-boggling jargon, offers that sound too good to be true and ‘hidden’ mid-contract price rises.

But if you know what to look for and the questions to ask when shopping for broadband, the chances are that you’ll be better informed and come away with a package that suits yours and your family’s needs.

Getting started

The first place to start when searching broadband deals is to find out what is actually available where you live! The best deal in the world might look the most attractive – but if that provider isn’t even in your area, it’s a none-starter!

Here at Voneus it’s quick and easy to find out. Pop your postcode in our postcode checker in the top right-hand corner and you’ll know at once whether we can reach you!

Next, find a broadband package that has the best balance between speed and price to meet your needs. We call this ‘The Goldilocks Zone’ because when you find it, it’ll feel just right!

Speed

Focusing on speed, think sensibly about your usage by asking a few simple questions:

  • How many people are in my household?

  • Do I work from home?

  • Do I stream a lot of Netflix or BBC iPlayer?

  • Do me or my family love gaming?

Other providers advertise an ‘average speed’ which tends to be for downloads only.

Here at Voneus we offer ‘symmetrical speed’. So, your upload speed – how quickly information goes from your computer to the internet and vital when making video calls and sharing files – is identical to your download speed – how quickly websites will load and how fast you can access music, games and TV.

Costs

Thinking about price, broadband deals usually come in 12, 18 or 24-month contracts, so think seriously about how much you can afford per month before taking the plunge. A bargain on the surface might lock you into a long-term agreement when actually, it would be more advantageous to switch to another provider sooner – a bit like when renewing your car insurance.

And that’s not the only ‘catch’ to be aware of - look out for sneaky set-up costs, charges for equipment such as a new router, or penalties for going over a monthly download limit.

Here at Voneus, we promise free standard installation, a free router, and no activation or setup fee.

We also have a ‘no price rise’ guarantee, which means the price you pay won’t ever rise mid-contract – unlike many providers who raise their prices annually to adjust for inflation. That means the price you sign up to is the price you’ll pay for the whole of your contract.

Always check the terms of your broadband contract regularly and make a note of when it expires – there may well be early exit charges!

Here at Voneus, we can often hold any special offers for you, while you see out the remaining months of your current contract.

After service

Once you’re up and running, you want your internet connection to be reliable and to know that if there are any problems, you can get them sorted as soon as possible.

So have a look what sort of after service your broadband provider has – does it include after hour, or weekends?

Here at Voneus we offer 24/7 technical support with a friendly support team available to offer technical help any time night or day.
